ABOUT INDIANA - HOOSIER LOTTO

The Hoosier Lotto was one of the first Indiana lotteries and offers promising winning odds of 1 out of 6.
Hoosier Lotto History
Hoosier Lottery officials created the Hoosier Lotto to replace Indiana’s ‘Lotto Cash’ in September 1994. To date, the largest Hoosier Lotto jackpots are $54 million in 2007, $34.5 million in 2011 and $34 million in 2012.
Hoosier Lotto Rules
The Indiana Hoosier Lotto is played by selecting 6 numbers out of a guess range of 1-48.
The Hoosier Lotto is played every Wednesday and Saturday at 22:30 CST local time, and results are available at 07:30 GMT every Sunday and Thursday.
Winning the Hoosier Lotto
There are five prize categories, and to win the Hoosier Lotto jackpot players must successfully guess 6 correct numbers out of 48 . The main prize starts at a guaranteed $1 million, however, rollovers have pushed the average jackpot to reach $5.6 million.
In the event there is no jackpot winner after two draws, the jackpot increases by $500,000 per rollover until it is won. All winners have 180 days to claim their prize which can be claimed as an annuity (any structured fixed jackpot payments that are given over a specified period of time) or a lump sum (a jackpot winner’s choice to receive all winnings at once which may be less than the annuitized payment). There is a 25% federal tax on all prizes over $5,000 (set at 30% for non-US residents) and a 3.5% state tax on all prizes over $1,200.
To date, the largest Hoosier Lotto jackpots are $54 million in 2007, $34.5 million in November of 2011, $34 million in 2012, and $26 million in 1997.
Those looking for higher jackpots should play the US Mega Millions lotto, which currently holds the American and world lottery record of $656 million!

The bonus number is used for secondary prizes only. Canada Lotto 649 winners have one year to claim their winnings and will always be awarded prizes in a lump sum (a one-time payment), tax-free. Canada Lotto 649 Anecdotes
Oil Money- Canada’s largest jackpot, CAD$ 54.3 million (US$53.7 million), was taken by 17 oil men in October of 2005. These weren’t the oil tycoons usually associated with oil money but rather 17 rig workers who entered the lottery together.  While only 17 oil company employees had entered the lottery together, they decided to share the win all of their co-workers whom they had known for years.
Double the Luck- A woman won an impressive CAD$11 million playing the 649 Lotto in 2007. The lucky winner continued to play the lottery, and in March of 2011 was in shock to find out that not only had she won the lottery again, but she had won the jackpot again, this time for CAD$7.7 million!
